For decades, sports fans in Buffalo and Cleveland have been brothers in misery.  Both cities have had heartbreak after heartbreak in pro sports.  Was it a curse?  Not any more.  The Cleveland Cavaliers 93-89 Game 7 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night ended 52 years of misery, at least for Cleveland.

The Cavaliers are NBA champions for the first time in franchise history and they became the first team in league history to win the championship after going down three games to one in the finals.  LeBron James seemed to will the Cavaliers to victory.

LeBron led the Cavs with 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds and 11 assists to become just the third player in NBA history with a triple-double.  And that was after he scored 41 points in both Games 5 & 6 to force the deciding Game 7.

And what a game it was.  The Cavaliers battled back from a seven point deficit to build a seven point lead in the 3rd quarter.  But both teams traded the lead in the fourth quarter and it came down to the final minute with the score tied at 89-89.  The Cavaliers hit on a 3-point shot while the Warriors missed and James sealed it with a free throw after he was fouled with 10 seconds to play.

So why should Buffalo fans be inspired?  Because it means it can be done.  It means there is no curse.  Teams like the Bills and Sabres can win a championship if they want it bad enough.  Their fans certainly do.

In the eyes of a lot of sports fans cities like Cleveland and Buffalo along with their sports teams are insignificant.  They're not glamour cities and neither are their teams.  But they have just as much a chance and a right to win a championship as any other team no matter what sport you're talking about.

So believe Buffalo sports fans - your day is coming.  I'm not sure how long it will take, but the day will come.  The Cleveland Cavaliers have proved it.

So in the meantime, congratulations Cleveland.  Congratulations Cavaliers.  You are finally a champion and it makes me happy.

Belive Buffalo fans.
