Winters have been tough on ski resorts in Western New York over the past couple of years.  Now, one has already said they will not be opening this year.

Weather in Western New York is unpredictable

For people who live outside of Western New York, it probably feels like a ski resort here would be a goldmine.  Many believe that it starts snowing just after Halloween and it doesn't end until April.  However, over the last couple of years, it feels like the measurable snow has been coming later and later, and within a couple of days, is already melted away.  It makes it hard for ski resorts to keep hills open throughout the entire winter.

Cockaigne Ski Resort announces they will not be reopening this year

Cockaigne Ski Resort made the tough announcement today that they will not be reopening for the 2023-2024 season.

"It is with sadness that we share that Cockaigne Ski Resort will not open for the 2023-2024 season. This includes our food and beverage operation.

To all of our past team members, ski clubs, jelly rollers, season pass holders and guests, extended family and friends – Thank You for your support over the years and for being the true spirit of skiing.
Sincerely,
Cockaigne Resort Management"

Where is Cockaigne Ski Resort

Cockaigne is in Cherry Creek, New York.  They're about 20 minutes outside of Jamestown at 1493 Thornton Rd and they've been there under the current ownership since 2017.  They made some upgrades to lifts, lighting, and snowmaking machines, but sadly have found (for whatever reason) that they're not going to be able to open this year.
There is no word what will happen with it from here.
