I had never heard of Tortuga Music Festival until last October when I visited family in the Ft. Lauderdale area and heard an advertisement on the radio. After experiencing the fun this past weekend, you can bet I am going to make it a point to get to it as often as I can and there is one artist I hope they invite to be a repeat performer.

Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown were as amazing as expected and although the two acts may be very different in their style, they are at the same level in their performance and in the fact that they get a crowd going crazy. Kenny Chesney's band blew me away on Saturday night. I haven't heard a guitar grouping that good in a long time. They were spot on with Chesney's hits but when they brought the AC/DC, the crowd exploded. Best cover I have ever heard a band do, by far. As far as Zac Brown, what more can I say? When it comes to a live performance,  they could be the most entertaining band in music right now.

But one artist at Tortuga 2015 that stole the show, and deserves to be recognized beyond this blog post, is Colt Ford. I have been a fan of his music for a few years and until this past weekend, had never seen his live show.We made it to the start of his show at 2:30 and by that time the Florida sun was blazing on the hot beach. The temperature had to be 88 with a heat index pressing 100!

Colt Ford loves music. But what you can't help but feel from Colt is his passion for people and love of this country. He has a true and genuine appreciation for what he has and what he is doing and it's contagious. The early, mid-afternoon crowd, of approximately 15,000 clearly showed up to see his performance and he didn't let us down.

Colt is well known for using other stars on his songs. It worked out great that Chase Rice was performing the same day and joined Colt for a song during the 45 minute set.

The big thing these days that an artist must posses is stage presence. Imagine a bigger guy, with long jeans, a white t-shirt, burly beard and black cowboy hat dancing his ass off and singing every note with perfection. Then, there wasn't a dry eye on the beach when he invited a young fan on stage to sing along with him and then gave her his autographed hat.

Colt Ford's music doesn't get the attention is deserves mainly because of the beat and melody. It leans more hip hop than traditional country. However if you listen to the words he sings, they are spot on and relatable to any hard working- red, white and blue patriot. He's as down home as many of the country legends and deserves more respect for doing it his way and sticking to a style that is working for him.

If you want fun beyond any other show you've seen, check out a Colt Ford concert sometime. It may change the way you think about  and listen to country music!
