Back in the late 70's and early 80's, one of the hottest rock bands in the Buffalo area was TALAS. Originally, they were a three piece outfit with Billy Sheehan on bass and vocals, Paul Varga on drums and vocals and Dave Constantino on guitar and vocals. TALAS was without a doubt the most popular band of that era. They even did a national tour with Van Halen. Towards the mid 80's, a new line up of TALAS was formed with Billy Sheehan on bass and vocals, Mark Miller on drums, Phil Naro on vocals and Mitch Perry on guitar. These guys were great but I preferred the original line up of Billy, Paul and Dave. I used to go see them all time at a club called Stage One on Main Street in Clarence. Billy and I got to be friends and we used to party a bit at his gigs. It always amazed me the amount of shots the guy could do and still be incredible on stage. I still hear from Billy Sheehan once in a while. He has gone on to become one of the most famous bass players in the world and now resides in California. Here is a video from 1984 with the second incarnation of TALAS as they cover the Max Webster classic "Battle Scar".
