I was honored to be a part of the 18th annual honorary burning of American flags in North Tonawanda on Saturday night.  Roger Bush and his family have been hosting the event over the years and about 75 people turned out this year.

It's disrespectful to display a torn, tattered or worn out flag.  The proper way to dispose of one is to burn it, then after the ashes have cooled it must be buried.

As the flag is placed on the fire you can stand at attention, salute the flag, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and have a brief period of silent reflection or a moment of silence.
