There are reports of an animal cruelty crime that took place near Syracuse, New York that is one of the more horrific in recent memory.

As the warmer weather gets here and the summer is on our doorstep, police will be stepping up patrols across New York State. From Niagara Falls, to the Hudson Valley, law enforcement is getting ready for the busiest part of the year.

There are reports this week that a person is in custody after throwing a rabbit out of a window.

Officials say that Michael Morris threw a rabbit out of a window at a Green Street apartment building back in 2019. He was involved in a domestic dispute at the time and the rabbit had to be euthanized due to the nature of its injuries.

New York State has some very clear and strict laws pertaining to the protection of animals. When it comes to animal cruelty, there is a variety of laws. For example. aggravated animal cruelty is described as, "A person is guilty of aggravated cruelty to animals when, with no justifiable purpose, he or she intentionally kills or intentionally causes serious physical injury to a companion animal with aggravated cruelty".
