It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This week, we remember all of our fallen heroes and remember the reason for our day off on Monday.  We thank all soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  In addition to them, our Hometown Hero is from Kenmore, NY.  It’s United States Air Force Senior Airman Michelle Erdt!

Michelle’s nomination reads:

Michelle Erdt served in United States Air Force as a Persian Farsi Airborne Linguist. After a 37-week intensive language study, survival school and intel training, she was stationed in Omaha, NE and RAF Mildenhall UK. While serving, she completed her A.A in Persian-Farsi and worked toward a B.A in English. Upon discharge, Michelle worked as a public-school teacher and newspaper/ yearbook adviser. In these roles she worked tirelessly to grow the programs through donation, sponsorships, and advertisement sales, bringing print production from the red to black in the first year.  She also developed a specialized curriculum to serve as a guide for future teachers. Michelle completed her M.Ed in Educational Leadership in 2013 and continued to lead within her schools. Upon returning home to Western New York, Michelle and her husband, a communications specialist in the Air National Guard, were introduced to WNY Heroes. At first, she saw the impact at the level of the B.O.O.T.S and WNY Heroes Women’s Group and knew she needed to be a part of the program. Since joining the team, Michelle continues to be amazed by the reach of WNY Heroes and the benevolence of the WNY community.

This week, we are honored to name Senior Airman Michelle Erdt our Hometown Hero of the week!
