Martina McBride, Billy Ray Cyrus Honor Beatles

Martina McBride and Billy Ray Cyrus were part of a star-studded three-day event over the weekend (Aug. 22-24) to honor legendary rock group the Beatles. The two country singers joined with several other artists at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the the group’s first appearance in the city.

Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart served as the host for weekend, which also included performances by Australian singer Vanessa Amorosi, Michelle Branch, Mary Lambert, Liv Warfield and Allen Stone. Veteran TV host Bob Eubanks, who is credited with getting the Beatles the gig at the Hollywood Bowl on Aug. 23, 1964, also took part in the festivities.

“They only wanted to play the Hollywood Bowl because of its iconic status,” Eubanks recalls to the Los Angeles Times. “There was another organization — I won’t name names — that tried to take the show away from me and wanted to put them into the Coliseum. Had they played the Coliseum, they would have done well. But they wanted the prestige of the Hollywood Bowl.”

Each of the singers performed some of the Beatles’ biggest hits, including ‘Hard Day’s Night,’ ‘All My Loving,’ ‘Long Tall Sally,’ ‘A Little Help From My Friends’ and ‘Yesterday’. Watch McBride sing ‘Let it Be’ above; press play below to see Cyrus sing ‘Hey Jude.’
