The weather will be starting to turn cooler soon.  Pumpkin spice things are turning up on menus.  It means that spooky season is right around the corner.

Now is the time to make plans for all the fun things you can do to get yourself ready for it.

Sure, you can go out and pick some apples.  Maybe take a drive to see all the leaves changing when it's time.  But if you really want to get in the mood, how cool would it be to be able to watch a movie at one of Western New York's spookiest locations?

What is Rolling HIlls Asylum?

Rolling Hills Asylum was originally known as a poorhouse or an almshouse.  It's a place where people who were orphaned, elderly, handicapped, mentally unstable, morally corrupt, and even criminals went to live and work.  According to an official announcement when they were opening, the people who were invited to be there were:

"Habitual drunkards, lunatics (one who by disease, grief or accident lost the use of reason or from old age, sickness or weakness was so weak of mind as to be incapable of governing or managing their affairs), paupers (a person with no means of income), state paupers (one who is blind, lame, old or disabled with no income source) or a vagrant."

As you can imagine, many of these people were without families or had been abandoned by them.  They had no money and were cared for by the county.  So when they died, there weren't many places for them to go.  They would simply be buried there on the property.

It is because of this that many people think the property itself is extremely haunted. You can see more on their story by clicking here.  Ghost hunters and lovers of the paranormal flock there to do their own ghost hunts and investigations.
