Huge news coming from the New York State Thruway over the weekend. If you have driven down the 90 in the past couple of years, you know that there are some major changes coming to all of the Thruway Rest stops.

THEY ARE OFFICALLY GOING TO FINISH ALMOST ALL OF THE REST STOPS BY THE END OF THE YEAR. All but two of them.

They are pretty well done, but I feel like we could use more restaurants that are open on Sunday (anyone else know what we mean?)

If you drive, here is what you might want to know if you are ever thinking about getting an electric car?

There are a ton of electric car charging stations that are opening up on the 90. As of right now, there 38 high-speed Level 3 EV charging stations on the NYS Thruway system and there are about 20 more coming. In addition, there are more in some of the commuter lots and welcoming centers. If you plan on getting an electric car or have one and need a charger while you are traveling on the 90, there's a map of where you can find the charging stations.

Now, the Thruway Authority has announced that are on pace to finish 25 of the 27 rest stops on the 90. As of right now they are OFFICALLY half way.

All of these rest stops are currently under construction:

  • Indian Castle
  • Chittenango
  • Junius Ponds
  • Iroquois
  • Clifton Springs
  • Plattekill
  • Ardsley
  • Clarence
  • New Baltimore
  • Pembroke
  • Seneca
  • Schuyler
  • Oneida
  • Port Byron

The New York State Thruway took to social media to remind New Yorkers who drive on the Thruway that this is always an option.

As of 2024, the tolls in New York State have gone up. This includes all of the bridges in the New York City area. If you do not have an EZ Pass, the tolls will cost you even more. New York State is trying to make sure that everyone has the EZ PASS. If you have an EZ Pass, you are required to keep putting money onto a balance so that the tolls can deduct money from it.

This is an option that will be a substitute for the New York State Thruway EZ Pass. The 'Pay Per Trip' option will allow you to hook up your bank account to pay for tolls.

Not a frequent traveler or don't prefer auto-replenishment? Sign up for the the Pay Per Trip plan. No prepaid account balance is required and tolls are deducted directly from your bank account.
