New York State lawmakers have reportedly reached an agreement on spending and the budget. While there are dozens of things that your tax dollars are being spent on, you might be surprised how many frivolous ways that money is being spent.

New York State has some of the highest taxes in the nation. But if you take away the politics and high taxes, this is a beautiful state to live in and offers so much. It is a shame that lawmakers get in the way of progress and more and more people choose to leave each year.

But for those of us who have called New York State home for generations, all we can do is hope that the future is bright and somehow better for our children. It all starts with a good foundation at home and a great education. New York State has many laws aimed at keeping kids in school and giving them a great opportunity to learn.

According to the law, "The compulsory attendance law in New York State requires that all children between the ages of six and sixteen be provided with a program of instruction, either at a public school or elsewhere".

I have been speaking with more and more parents who are choosing to home school their kids. The law says that: "Parents who wish to home school their children must provide written notice of intent to the school district superintendent. The school district must then respond to the family and provide a copy of the home instruction regulations as well as an individualized home instruction plan (IHIP) form to complete".

A solid education is the best investment we can make for the future of New York State and the United States.
