Charlie Daniels may not be the biggest star of today's country radio, however, he is very relevant and present on social media. True, Charlie spends a lot of time on Twitter as is evident in his many thoughts that he shares regarding God, Family, Country and guns in 140 characters or less. Yet, Daniels should be better known for having some great hits over the years on Country Radio and Classic Rock Radio. (Many of which you can still hear on WYRK during Wide Open Country on Saturday mornings and our request shows).

Although he has many moments he can/should be proud of in his life and career, I was reminded that January 19th is the day in 2008 that he was formally inducted in to the Grand Ole Opry.

The Damage That Can Be Done By Social Media

I look at it as not only an eye-opener for a lot of sports fans, but a lesson on how social media can have a negative impact on people in everyday life.  With Twitter, Facebook and all the other platforms available to people these days rumors can be spread almost anonymously and often the target of those rumors is helpless to stop them.

I came across this well-written essay by Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate.  He joined the Lions in free agency last spring after playing four years with the Seattle Seahawks and winning the Super Bowl.  Tate was roasted by Seattle fans on social media after he left and it included a number of false accusations that he clears the air on.

I think it's a good lesson for all of us.
