Rick Martin…Never Too Busy For The Fans

How many times do we hear that some athletes were just "too busy" to sign an autograph or wouldn't allow a picture to be taken. Not Sabres great Rick Martin! Sadly he died today after an apparent heart attack resulting in a one car accident. He was 59. 

I was given permission to share this photo (March 1978) from my dear friend (and my Godson Robbie's mother) Julie Schmidt (that's her to left of Rick Martin).  He was not just great on the ice, but with the fans as well. Maybe some of today's so-called "sports heroes" could take a lesson from this. R.I.P. Rick Martin, truly a class act.
