Rob Bironas, husband of country newcomer Rachel Bradshaw, died in a single-vehicle accident Saturday night (Sept. 20) in Nashville.

The former Tennessee Titans kicker, 36, was killed after he crashed around 11PM local time. Metro police say Bironas wrecked in the 800 block of Battery Lane; he was traveling at a high speed and lost control of his SUV before it went off the road and hit several trees. His vehicle ended upside-down in a drainage culvert.

Upon his arrival at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Bironas was pronounced dead.

Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron says Bironas appeared to be headed home, which was not too far from the scene of the crash. Aaron says there is no evidence that alcohol was a factor.

Just hours after the crash, the devastating incident was confirmed on Bironas' social media accounts. Prayers have been requested in addition to respect for the family's privacy.

Bironas and Bradshaw were newly married in June. She is the daughter of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw. The songstress signed a record deal in 2012 with Bigger Picture Group. "Ever since I was young, I knew that music was different for me — I felt like it was my calling,” she said at the time. “I didn’t just like listening to the radio — it was all I wanted to do.”

While she is an avid music lover, her husband was a sports aficionado, kicking for the Titans for nine seasons before being released in March. The team gave a statement after they heard the news, saying, "Rob made a significant impact as a player in his nine years with the team and more importantly touched many lives in the Nashville community off the field. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Rachel, and his family during this very difficult time."

Bironas touched the lives of many, including several country stars who tweeted after learning of the horrible news:
