Dale Earnhardt, Junior won his 10th straight NASCAR Most Popular Driver award on Thursday and that moves him into a tie with Bill Elliott for winning the award most consecutive times. Good for him. Nice guy. But I’ve always scratched my head over why he’s so popular. Is it because he’s a great driver? Hardly. Let’s look at the numbers.

It was a long day at Kansas Speedway. During a season where long, long green lap periods were the norm, Kansas was one caution after another – 14 in all. In the end Matt Kenseth was the winner for the second time in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship run and Brad Keselowski hung on to the points lead.
