I look at it as not only an eye-opener for a lot of sports fans, but a lesson on how social media can have a negative impact on people in everyday life.  With Twitter, Facebook and all the other platforms available to people these days rumors can be spread almost anonymously and often the target of those rumors is helpless to stop them.

I came across this well-written essay by Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate.  He joined the Lions in free agency last spring after playing four years with the Seattle Seahawks and winning the Super Bowl.  Tate was roasted by Seattle fans on social media after he left and it included a number of false accusations that he clears the air on.

I think it's a good lesson for all of us.
