There’s a Buffalo Connection to U-S Currency
There's been talk of replacing the image of Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with the image of a woman. Other than Sacajewa and Susan B. Anthony who appear on one dollar coins, no women have appeared on U-S paper currency. Some think that's unfair and it's time for that to be corrected.
Who are the women who could replace Andrew Jackson? Rob Banks discusses the possible options for the $20 bill.
How well do you know all the people pictured on U-S currency? Washington on the dollar bill and Lincoln on the five are easy. But after that most people are stumped. Let take you through the progression. And what's the Buffalo connection to the $500 and $1000 bills? You can find out here.

Fifty Dollar Bill

500 Dollar Bill
The Buffalo connection begins with the $500 bill. Unfortunately it's a sad connection. William McKinley was assassinated in Buffalo by an anarchist while visiting the Pan American Exposition in 1901. McKinley's image appears on the $500 bill.
1000 Dollar Bill
The Buffalo connection continues with the $1000 bill featuring the image of Grover Cleveland. He served two non-consecutive terms as U.S. President making him the 22nd and 24th presidents with Benjamin Harrison serving in the White House for the four year period between Cleveland's two terms. Grover Cleveland was born in New Jersey, but moved to Buffalo where he lived with an uncle for a time, went to law school and became an attorney. Later he became Erie County Sheriff, then mayor of Buffalo and eventually New York State governor.
