The things we take for granted are plenty.  Many of us take food, shelter, and clean water for granted.  For some of us, it’s the guy that holds a door for you, or your wife that has your schedule planned out so that you never forget your own mother’s birthday.  But let’s get serious for a minute.  Ever lost your remote for the TV?  That makes for a miserable day!

I mean really…you have to get up EVERY TIME you want to change the channel or adjust the volume.  When I was a kid, we often joked that that was why dad had 4 kids.  WE were the remotes.  There was actually a dial on our TV that had to be turned to change the channel.   We only got 3 of them but on a good day we could get FOX and that made 4.

When  we lost the remote, I became incredibly productive.   I cleaned the entire living room trying to find it.  I was flipping over the couches and chairs and vacuuming between the cushions just to find it.  My living room was immaculate!  Still no remote…

So I questioned the kids over and over to find out where they might have put it.  Of course they had no idea where it might have disappeared to.  I was really starting to panic.  Still no remote…

Then today when my wife and I were sitting there watching some show about a bunch of brides that go to each other’s weddings to rate them and decide who had the best one, I finally broke down and said it.  “This show is ridiculous.  I think we have to buy a new remote,” I said to my wife.  That was enough…

She wasn’t about to waste money on a stupid remote control.  She’d prefer to just turn that stupid thing off and get something done anyway.  So that’s what she did.  She turned off the TV and went upstairs to clean my daughter’s room.  And that’s when it happened.

She found the remote!  It was wrapped up in a Snuggie that made it back upstairs.  She did it!  She found the remote!  Whew…now I can go back to doing nothing again.

Did I mention how much I love my wife?
