Tim McGraw Is Today’s Feature Artist On Wide Open Country
He was born Samuel Timothy McGraw in Delhi, Louisiana, but grew up using the name Tim Smith. It was not until age 11 that he found out his father was actually baseball great and New York Mets/Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Tug McGraw. Tug refused to acknowledge the paternity until Tim was 18. It was then that he finally realized Tim was indeed his son. After that, the pair became close until Tug's death from brain cancer in 2004.
Tim McGraw has had the kind of country music career that most artists would give their left arm for. Tim's albums have sold millions. He has had 15 #1 hits and 7 Top Ten Singles on the Billboard Country Singles Chart.
