Comedian, Country Singer Tim Wilson Dead
Comedian Tim Wilson died of an apparent heart attack on Wednesday (Feb. 26). The 52-year-old was known nationwide, but especially among country crowds who appreciated the comedy of Larry the Cable Guy, Ron White and Jeff Foxworthy.
Those who never saw Wilson’s standup may recognize him for his music. He released a few comedic singles to country radio, including ‘Garth Brooks Has Ruined My Life,’ ‘The Ballad of John Rocker’ and ‘The Jeff Gordon Song.’ During a 20-plus year career, he unleashed more than 10 albums, most recently ‘Caffeine Wired, Nervous & Pale’ in 2013.
The Georgia-born comic aspired to be a musician, but when a demo didn’t yield anything positive, he turned to comedy. Wilson’s first big break was was an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show’ in 1990. Soon, the two passions would merge, and he’d help write songs like Jeff Foxworthy’s ’The Redneck Twelve Days of Christmas.’ He’s also listed as a co-writer on Toby Keith’s ‘High Maintenance Woman.’
Synidcated radio hosts Bob & Tom have put together a tribute to Wilson, sharing some of his best moments. He’s remembered as a great comic, a great friend, mentor to many and a true pioneer.
“One of the big 3,” Larry the Cable Guy said. “Hat off. My heart goes out to his wife and kids. You’ll be missed Tim and thank you for all the memories.”
Wilson leaves behind a wife, two kids, millions of distraught fans and a large group of devastated colleagues.
Sad day in the comedy world. Tim Wilson was a legend and me laugh so many times. Many caring thoughts are with his family today.
