Doesn't it drive you nuts when you're watching something on TV, then they break for commercials and the volume nearly blasts you out of the room?  You should notice a difference in those excessively loud TV commercials as the – ready for this one - the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act has kicked in. Also known as the CALM Act, it requires TV stations to monitor the volume of all commercials they air, whether they're local or nationally syndicated. The same rules will apply for cable providers.
