7 Places To Get Birch Beer In Western New York
Western New York is known for some original food and drinks like pizza logs, pastry hearts, and loganberry.
Well, there should be another drink added to that list....Birch Beer. Recently I asked on social media what the official drink of Western New York should be and I got a lot of answers. The number one answer was loganberry but a couple of people commented with Birch Beer and that took me back to being a kid.
I haven't thought about Birch Beer in over 20 years because since I moved around the country it was never available. So when a couple of people mentioned it, I instantly thought of how my mom used to make my brothers and me birch beer ice cream floats and they were amazing.
If you are not sure what birch beer is, it is like root beer but just a bit different.
According to Wikipedia, Birch Beer is a carbonated soft drink made from herbal extracts and birch bark and is most commonly found in the Northeast of America as well as in parts of Canada.
When I was thinking about Birch Beer, I realized is that you really don't see it anywhere in Western New York anymore. When I was a kid it would come in cans or in big 2 liter bottles but since I have been back in Buffalo over the past three years I haven't seen it regular.
So I did what most people do when they are looking for something but don't know where to find it. I ask on social media. Plenty of people chimed in with places to get it so I decided to share some of them with you.
