Aaron Rodgers One Step Closer To Playing the Bills Twice a Year

The NFL still has to get through the AFC and NFC Championship games, along with the Pro Bowl skills challenge and of course, the Super Bowl.

However, the NFL off-season moves are already starting fast and furious.

The Bills fired safeties coach Jim Salgado on Thursday, while the head coaching rumors and interviews continue with teams such as the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.

Then there's the move that the New York Jets made on Thursday.

The Jets decided to hire former Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett as their new offensive coordinator.

Hackett was fired midway through his first season in Denver, after a disaster of a season with the Broncos and newly acquired quarterback Russell Wilson. Hackett was previously the OC for the Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars and his first stint as an OC, with the Bills from 2013-2014.

Hackett was Aaron Rodgers' offensive coordinator from 2019-2021. With Rodgers and Hackett, the Packers enjoyed great success and by all accounts, Rodgers enjoyed his time with Hackett.

Now, the future for Rodgers in Green Bay is clouded. Will he retire? Will he return to Green Bay? Or will Rodgers finally decide to request a trade and get a fresh start to end his NFL career?

Could the Jets hiring of Hackett as OC spark interest in Rodgers to come to New York and would the Jets now push for him? Head coach Robert Saleh today downplayed the hiring of Hackett to lure potential players.

Many people thought that's exactly what the Denver Broncos did last year when hiring Hackett as their head coach over Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn.

That never materialized, however.

The Jets really are the perfect team for a trade destination for Rodgers.

They're in the AFC and the Packers don't play the Jets again until 2026. They now have Rodgers' old OC. The Jets are a win-now roster with a great defense and offensive weapons; many of whom are on rookie contracts. The Jets also could sacrifice draft capital.

The Bills may be playing Rodgers twice next season, but who knows what Rodgers really wants...
