At least they figured out how to get started on the right foot.

The Buffalo Sabres came out against the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night looking like they meant business. They decidedly had the better of the play through the first 20 minutes, and it paid off early in the second period, when Cody Hodgson scored on the power play on a nice pass out from Matt Moulson.

The Sabres lead didn't last long. The Ducks tied it 90 seconds later -- the first of five in a row by the Ducks -- and the Sabres were on their way to a 6-3 loss.

Defensemen had the other Buffalo goals -- Henrik Tallinder and Tyler Myers. Other than the first period, it was another awful performance by the Sabres, leaving them still looking for their first win on home ice this season.

The don't have to worry about any more home losses for at least the next week. The Sabres are out west for games in San Jose, Los Angeles and a rematch with the Ducks.
