There is no doubt that winter is far from over here in New York State. In fact, a major blast of Arctic air is about to move in, bringing what could be some of the coldest temperatures of 2026 so far.

Cold Weather Brings Hope for Snowmobilers

For those of us who love spending winter on a snowmobile, there is some good news. At least in the Tug Hill region of New York State, conditions have been ideal for producing lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario.

Here in Western New York, Lake Erie is still primed to produce snow as well, once the cold air arrives and the winds line up just right. That combination could mean fresh snowfall and improved trail conditions for winter recreation enthusiasts.

A Brief Break From Winter in New York State

Last week offered a noticeable pause in winter across much of New York State. Some areas even saw temperatures climb close to 60 degrees. It doesn’t help when friends or relatives wintering in Florida feel the need to remind us daily just how nice their weather is.
