5 Best Bills Rushing Season In The Last 15 Years; One is a Shock

The Buffalo Bills will be reporting to training camp at St. John Fisher College in Rochester in just under four weeks.

Veterans report on July 23rd, while rookies will report on July 18th. The first practice, which will be open to the public, will take place on July 24th at 9:45 am.

One of the most intriguing position battles this camp and preseason will be at running back.

The number one back heading into the season is fourth-year running back, Devin Singletary. The Florida Atlantic University product is looking to continue what was a stellar end to the 2021 season.

The Bills also drafted Georgia running back, James Cook in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft in April. He will likely be used as a pass catcher on safeties and linebackers, as well as getting a fair share of carries.

It remains to be seen what happens with third-year running back, Zack Moss. After November of 2021, Moss was in head coach Sean McDermott's doghouse and was second fiddle to Singletary the rest of the way. There's some thought he could be a camp casualty when roster cuts take place.

The Bills also signed veteran running back, Duke Johnson in March. Johnson is a pass-catching RB as well.

While the Bills love to pass more than run the ball between the tackles, they do need more big plays and explosiveness at the position in 2022. Ironically, Singletary had one of the most prolific advance stats seasons of any Bills running back since 2006, according to PFF.

Singletary's rushing grade was 82.5, which places his 2021 campaign at number two in the top five.

No surprise, C.J. Spiller's 2012 season was number one with a 92.1 grade.

The most surprising one of all has got to be Mike Gillislee at number four with a grade of 82.0.

Gillislee played for the Bills during the Rex Ryan coaching years in 2015 and 2016. He was a backup behind LeSean McCoy. His 2016 season featured 101 carries for 577 yards and 5.7 yards per carry with eight touchdowns.

What's interesting is McCoy's 2016 season was not ahead of Gillislee, as Shady put up 1,267 rushing yards (5.4 ypc) and 50 catches for 14 total touchdowns.
