The Buffalo Bills' 2024 season is technically underway.  They've released their first depth chart of the season so we know where the players stand.

Look at this depth chart like a first-draft

The thing about depth charts is that they can change day to day and week to week.  They are almost never final.  So we probably shouldn't read too much into this at this point.  They are just breaking camp today for the last time so there's still a lot of time before the regular season and a lot to learn about players in an actual game-like situation.

What is a depth chart?

If you aren't a fan of football, but just love the Bills, a depth chart is a chart that tells you who the starting team would be and then who their fill-ins are if they are injured or can't perform for any reason.  It's the map of who the "next guy up" would be.

As of 8-7-24, the official Bills depth chart looks like this:

Surprises on the Bills' first depth chart of 2024

There really weren't a bunch of big surprises yet.  The biggest one might be that after the incredible camp that we've heard about from Keon Coleman, he's still behind Mack Hollins on the depth chart.  Again, that could change before week 1 of the regular season but as of now, Hollins will be the starter at least for the first pre-season game.  Chase Claypool is sitting 4th on the depth chart.

The offensive line is pretty much exactly where people expected it to be.  While many thought that Sedrick Van-Pran Granger might be able to push Connor McGreggor for the starting spot at center (and move McGreggor back to guard), he's currently 3rd on the depth chart behind Will Clapp.

Von Miller is behind AJ Epenesa for now also.  But they rotate a lot at the edge position to keep everyone fresh and technically Miller is still coming off injury.

There are still a lot of changes to be made

Roster cuts will come at the end of the preseason.  Of course, they can begin to cut at any time but unlike the past, there will not be dates where they need to trim the roster a little at a time.  All the cuts can be made at the end of the preseason.  The Bills will have to have their roster reduced to a maximum of 53 players on the active/inactive list by 4 p.m. ET on August 27.

Will Any Of The Undrafted Free Agents Make The Cut?
