Now that a lot of restrictions are being lifted, people are getting together more.  If you've got a big party coming up and you're looking for a keg, where do you go?

I have to be honest, I thought this list might have been a little easier to put together than it's turning out to be.  I thought I could just go online and search places to buy a keg in Buffalo and hundreds of places would come up.  Turns out...it's not that easy.

What comes up are places to buy kegs to fill with your own homebrew, breweries that will sell you their own craft brews, and then a handful of places that will sell you regular domestic beers in kegs.

After looking around and making phone calls to be sure that the places listed in the internet searches and yellow pages actually sell beer, it became obvious that the place to go to buy a keg is easily Consumer's Beverages in Western New York.  There are tons of locations of Consumer's around Western New York.  They seem to be the obvious choice.  Their prices are great.  Their choices are great.  We love Consumers.

But who else sells them?  That's what this list is about.

Planning for a party or a get-together isn't easy.  There's a lot that goes into it.  Figuring out how much beer you're going to need is one of those things.  Do you just need a couple 30 packs in a trough, or are you looking for an all-out kegger?

Do I really need a keg for my party?

How many people are you having over?  How much do they like to drink?  Those are the two biggest questions you should ask yourself when trying to decide if a keg is necessary at all.

A keg is about 15 and a half gallons of beer.  That turns out to be about 165 12 ounce beers.  Obviously, you'll get fewer beers if you buy bigger cups.

So if you're having 40 people over, they'll each be able to have 4 full beers.  Twenty people would get 8 beers apiece.

How long will a keg last?

I know a lot of people that just like to have their favorite beer always on tap. But how long will it stay fresh if that's what you want it for?  It depends who you ask because freshness is a pretty subjective term.  But you will hear anywhere from 20-120 days.  That's a pretty wide range.  A lot of the breweries will have a "Freshness Date" on their kegs.  They will normally just tell you not to drink it past the freshness date.

Unfortunately, you can't just walk into any store and walk out with a keg.  You have to know where to get one, and often, you have to order it ahead of time.

So where do you go?  (If we added every location from Consumer's Beverages to this list it would be closer to 20 locations)
