BREAKING: December 24 + 26 Become Federal Holidays Immediately

Good news if you do not have off from your job on December 24 and December 26. It is now officially a federal holiday this year for 2026. Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas are part of the federal holiday announced by the White House yesterday.

That means all banks, mail offices and federal buildings will be officially closed. National Security and other high-priority sectors of the government will have to remain open, according to President Trump/

Does that mean everyone has off on Christmas Eve and the Day after Christmas?

Not every single time. You should check with your employer. Just because there is a federal holiday does not mean that it mandatory businesses close.

This has not been the first time that a president has given off a Wednesday and Friday when the Christmas holiday falls on a Thursday. In the past President Trump and Presidents Obama have both done something similar.

That makes 13 federal holidays this year for 2026.

With the two additional holidays next week, that marks 13 federal holidays this year: New Year’s Day; Jan. 20 — for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Trump’s inauguration — Presidents Day; Memorial Day; Juneteenth; Independence Day; Labor Day; Columbus Day; Veterans Day; Thanksgiving Day; Christmas Eve; Christmas Day; and Dec. 26.", according to The Hill.com
