One of the most memorable things for me about growing up in Western New York was being able to watch Canadian television. Back in the 60's and 70's, almost everyone had a directional TV antenna on their roof controlled by a rotor box in the TV room. My grandfather had his rotor box marked off with the settings for all the Canadian channels. We were avid fans of CFTO, CBLT and CHCH-TV. If you pointed your antenna in the proper direction, these Canadian channels would come in as clear as the Buffalo channels 2, 4 and 7.

Aside from Championship Wrestling on CHCH-TV on channel 11 in Hamilton, my favorite Canadian TV program was The Beachcombers starring Bruno Gerussi. The show was about the adventures of a professional lumber salvager and his friends in Gibsons, British Columbia, Canada. The Beachcombers ran for 20 years and made Bruno Gerussi and international star as the show was shown in 40 countries. Here's a video about the final episode and the wrap up party.
