How To Start Your Very Own Free Little Blockbuster In Western New York

You may have seen the "free little libraries" that have popped up all over the country to encourage people to read and share their favorite books. Now someone has decided to do the same thing, only with physical media.

The new thing is "Free Blockbusters"

If you're like me, you remember when music and movies could only be borrowed or bought on physical media. Things like DVDs, blueray discs, and even VHS tapes were the only way to watch them. You couldn't just bring up Amazon Prime and watch them anytime you wanted. You either had to buy them on DVD or pay to go watch them in the theater. That was pretty much it.

Then video stores like Blockbuster came around, and you had the option to rent them for a weekend.

Now, people are starting "Free Blockbusters" in their front yards where people can come and borrow movies for free, just like people do with the "free little libraries." If you take a video, you can leave another for them to borrow.

How to start your own "Free Blockbuster"

Yes, Blockbuster seems to be ok with people using their name and even colors to do this. There are actually dozens of them across the US already. They have even set up a website where you can start your own.

1. Start by going to this website.

2. Build the box where you'll hold your movies. Many people use refurbished newspaper boxes, but you can make it out of anything.

3. Decorate it with your own blue and yellow paint. They even have a logo that you can to make a stencil here.

4. Put any VHS tapes, DVDs or other entertainment media in there that you're ok losing forever. (They're meant to be returned once they've borrowed it but you never know if someone will return these).

5. Tell everyone that it's there so they can use it.
