The new school year will begin in just a few days and families across New York State are finalizing their plans and shopping!

The summer has been filled with fun and excitement and now the regular routine is about to start. For kids, it may be a tough dose of reality. For parents, a big relief? Either way, the first day of school is just about here.

But beyond the excitement and nerves, related to back to school, there is another harsh reality that some are facing.

For thousands of families in New York State, getting three solid meals a day is a struggle. As the prices of everything are through the roof, families have to balance the bills with the grocery tab. There is a push to pass a new bill that might help, regardless of income.

According to multiple reports, if the bill were passed, school kids would have three meals and a snack provided to them.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for the passage of the Universal School Meals Program Act, which would give students breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack free of charge regardless of income.

The big day is almost here as many school districts begin on Thursday, September 5th!
