
Frito Lay Laying Off Employees In New York
Frito-Lay is laying off some of its employees in New York State. Frito-Lay has around 20 offices in the state, including Buffalo, Dryden, Brooklyn, and Liberty. Almost one-third of its employees at one NY plant will lose their jobs soon.
"Frito-Lay, Inc. is an American subsidiary of PepsiCo that manufactures, markets, and sells corn chips, potato chips, and other snack foods. The primary snack food brands produced under the Frito-Lay name include Fritos corn chips, Cheetos cheese-flavored snacks, Doritos and Tostitos tortilla chips, Lay's and Ruffles potato chips, Rold Gold pretzels, and Walkers potato crisps (in the UK and Ireland)."
The company, which was founded in September 1961, is headquartered in Plano, Texas. In total, Frito-Lay has 55,000 employees.
Frito-Lay To Layoff One-Third Of Employees At NY Location
Frito-Lay located in the Hudson Valley at 79 Industrial Place, Middletown, NY 10940, is cutting ties with nearly a third of its employees. According to a New York Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification aka a WARN notice, the plant is laying off 88 of its 305 workers. The company cites "economic" reasons in the notice. The employees will be let go beginning on August 30, 2024, and the layoffs should be finished by September 13, 2024.
For 2023, Frito-Lay reported a profit,
"Operating profit increased 2%, primarily reflecting effective net pricing, productivity savings, a 5-percentage-point favorable impact of prior-year impairment charges associated with a baked fruit convenient food brand and lower advertising and marketing expenses."
While its parent company, PepsiCo Beverages North America saw its operating profit decrease by 27 percent.
