It was one of the most anticipated shows the year so far! George Strait brought his stadium tour to Orchard Park, New York at the home of the Buffalo Bills.

The weather was perfect for the nearly 50,000 fans that showed up to witness what is likely the last time a major country music star will perform at the current Highmark Stadium before the newer stadium opens next year.

But for one young fan, this was more than just a concert, it was an opportunity!

As the gates opened before the show, I met a young man named Gavin Leising and his dad. I couldn't miss the chance to ask about his very large sign asking George Strait to bid on his 4-H project!

Gavin is 14 years old and currently an 8th grade student at Clarence Middle School.

Gavin is selling his lamb in the 4-H market auction at this year's Niagara County Fair! This is his 5th year participating in 4-H and among learning the importance of working hard, there are some other things that 4-H kids learn while taking care of livestock leading up to the auctions. Gavin wrote us a note that indicates he "is learning to think like a businessman by identifying potential buyers and building communication skills by reaching out to new people".

This was a rare chance to market Gavin's project in front of one of the biggest supporters of farmers and agriculture in the country.

While I don't know if George actually will help out Gavin, I promised I would help spread the word.

Gavin is one of the great examples of the many 4-H kids we have here in Western New York, and across the United States. These kids are not only the ones who will feed the world in the future, like Gavin, they might run the businesses that help keep our nation thriving and there are few better ways to support them than at a county fair livestock auction.

The Niagara County Fair will take place Wednesday, July 30th through Sunday, August 3rd. The auction that Gavin is selling his lamb in will be on Friday, August 1st.

"The Niagara County Fair in Lockport, NY is the largest youth fair in the state and has something for everyone".
