When it comes to representing Western New York in the 2018 Winter Olympics, Buffalo and Rochester will be very visible...mostly in one sport.

If you just guessed it would be in hockey, you'd of course be right.

There are 18 athletes on the roster for the US Olympics team that call NY their home state.  Of those 18 spots, Buffalo and Rochester hold down 4 of them. (By State (.pdf))

Of those four spots, three of them are in ice hockey with Brian Gionta from Rochester and goalie David Leggio from Buffalo on the men's team and Buffalo's own Emily Pfalzer representing the ladies team.

The remaining spot is being held down by Freestyle Skier from Rochester NY, Jon Lillis.

Now, on to the people that were born here in Buffalo and Rochester:

Hagen Kearney (From Buffalo now Norwood, CO) - Snowboarding

Morgan Schild (From Rochester now Pittsford, NY) - Skiing (Moguls)

Emerson Smith (From Buffalo now Dover, VT) - Skiing (Moguls)

The Winter Games start on February 9th in PyeongChang, South Korea.
