Get Your Dog + Cat The Rabies Vaccination For FREE In Erie County

If you have a dog or a cat...or a ferret, there will be two different days that you can go get your pet vaccinated for rabies in Erie County. Now, the locations and times HAVE NOT been announced just yet, but Erie County is going to do so on Wednesday, September 9.

When the locations and times are available, so will the registration information which will be mandatory to complete in order to receive the free vaccination. No walk ups will be welcome on site.

We do know the dates that the the vaccinations will occur and those are Saturday, September 19, 2020 and Tuesday, September 29, 2020.

In the past few weeks, you may have seen some small packets of vaccines that were dropped from the sky. Those packets were for wild animals to consume all over Western New York to reduce the amount of rabid cases in Erie County. If you had found one in your yard you should wear gloves and throw in the garbage. 

According to the Erie County website, here are things you should know:

Things to Know Before Coming to the Clinics:

• Dogs, cats and ferrets that are 4 months of age and older are eligible for this clinic.
• Due to expected demand, ECDOH is limiting registrations to 3 pets per vehicle.
• Staff are asking pet owners to limit the number of people in the vehicle.
• Face masks or cloth face coverings will be required at all times, and physical distancing will be strictly enforced by clinic staff.
• Pet owners MUST bring proof of vaccination for each animal to receive a three-year certificate; otherwise, a one-year certificate will be issued.
• Pets should be appropriately restrained in a carrier or collar and short leash; no retractable leashes.
• Please contact your veterinarian for vaccination information and for any questions you have regarding your pets.
