The busy summer is about to start and across New York State that means it is time to get the house ready! From flowers, to hardware, homeowners are flocking to their favorite stores.

After a long stretch of rain, the weather FINALLY improved for Memorial Day in Western New York. The sun was shining and the lawn mowers were buzzing all over the place.

Memorial Day is more than just getting a good deal at a store. It is more than just a day off. Memorial Day is a set aside to remember, reflect and pray for those who have died serving to protect our freedom. It is also a day to thank and honor their families as well.

Traditionally, Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer and time to get those outdoor projects done and flowers in the ground and according to a Hamburg resident that I spoke to, "the garden center was packed at the Home Depot on Milestrip Road".

But that is not the only reason why people go to Home Depot on Memorial Day.

American Flag Disposal

It's likely that you put your flag out this past weekend. If it is torn, tattered or needs to be replaced, The Home Depot offers a way to dispose of them PROPERLY.

"These Home Depot locations will gladly take your American flags to recycle or burn. They offer these services to ensure the flags get thrown away properly if others do not have the means to".

There are collection bins at various Home Depot locations around Western New York. If that is not an option, VFW posts will also take them and dispose of them.
