I’ve been struggling thru a cold this week and a friend e-mailed me an article on the virtues of honey and its amazing healing power. And it was suggested a combination of honey and cinnamon does wonders to get rid of a cold. The recommendation is take one tablespoon of lukewarm honey with ¼ tablespoon of cinnamon powder for three days. It’ll cure chronic cough, get rid of the dold and clear the sinuses.

Sounds ok, but there’s more. The same combination of honey and cinnamon also relieves upset stomach and gas.

If you have a chronic problem with indigestion, take two tablespoons of honey sprinkled with cinnamon before meals to relieve acidity and to help digest the heaviest of meals.

Then we start getting questionable – skin infections. Supposedly honey and cinnamon in equal parts will cure eczema, ring worm and other skin problems. Just apply to the affected areas.

Pimples? Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and mix into a paste. Apply it to pimples before bed and wash it off the next morning with warm water. You’ll see results in days.

There’s a long list of other things the combination allegedly relieves or even cures, but some of them are pretty questionable – like heart disease, arthritis and one claim about cancer. I checked Snopes and it’s such a long list that they say some are true and some are false. But for as something as simple as a cold it doesn’t hurt to try and it could save you some money over the cost of medicines these days.

By the way, honey is the only food that will not spoil or turn bad. It will crystallize if stored in a cool dark place, but if you loosen the lid and let the container sit in hot water for a while, it will liquefy again. But don’t boil or microwave honey because it will kill the enzymes in it.
