While traveling over the weekend, I ran into one of the newest Buffalo Bills.  There were a couple of things that were shocking about it.

Meeting a celebrity in public is always strange, especially if you're a fan. Do you take the chance to say hi and meet them? Is it ok to ask for a picture?  What will their reaction be?  Are you going to annoy them?

This past weekend, I was traveling and ended up at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport. After rushing to get to our gate to avoid missing our connecting flight, I took a second to do a little people-watching.  Of all the busy travelers in that airport on a holiday weekend, I suddenly saw one that I recognized.  It was the Buffalo Bills' 2025 third-round draft pick Landon Jackson.

He was kind of hard to miss.  Standing at about 6'6" and almost 280 pounds, he stood out a bit. I'm not a little guy, but he sure made me look little.

Shocking things about meeting Landon Jackson

There were a couple of things that shocked me about meeting him. The first was just how nice he seemed to be. While he looks like he might be pretty mean (and I'm sure he could be), he was super nice. He was gracious and friendly, and started to smile as soon as I introduced myself. I get awkward in those situations because I can imagine that it could get old having people come up to ask for pictures when you're on your own time.  I never want to be that guy.

At the same time, I thought it might be cool for him to meet a Bills fan, too, in a random place that isn't even Buffalo. It has to be cool to be recognized as a rookie. That's how I always feel when people ask to take pictures with me, and I'm just a radio DJ.

It was shocking to meet him there

While I shouldn't have been, I guess I was also shocked to see him in Dallas. In all of his career years in Buffalo, I've never bumped into Josh Allen in the Western New York area. Jackson has been on the team for about a month, and I saw him almost 1400 miles away.

They're just like us

We ended up sitting on that plane for two hours before being told that there was something wrong with it and we would need to find another plane to get home. We picture these guys as celebrities who get special treatment all the time. But not in this case. He sat through all of that with the rest of us and ended up arriving in Buffalo late just like we did.

My wife likes to pick on me that I was "fangirling" over a football player. Maybe I was a little. I'm a fan. Now that it's said and done, I'm glad I took the time to say hi and welcome him to Buffalo. I wish him the absolute best. Now, I can't wait to see him put up double-digit sacks in 2025.
