If the last few days are any indication of what's to come this summer, the folks of Buffalo and Western New York are sure in for a treat with tons of fun, family, and food on the horizon.

Like in most places around the nation, Western New York welcomes the unofficial start of Summer during Memorial Day Weekend. While we take time out to commemorate the sacrifices that members of our Armed Forces made to keep America safe, people all over the nation will be celebrating that freedom with gatherings and cookouts from sea to shining sea.

This year's Memorial Day takes on special significance as the United States is also celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, marking 2-and-a-half centuries of America.

Sahlen's Releases New "Firecracker' Hot & Spicy Smokehouse Hot Dog

To help bring the holiday in one of the most Buffalo ways possible, Sahlen Packing Co. is releasing a special Firecracker Hot & Spicy Smokehouse Hot Dog just in time for everyone's Memorial Day cookouts.

Joseph Sahlen, owner of Sahlen Packing Co., talked about how fun and memorable this coming summer should be for Buffalo and America, and how he and the Sahlen's crew wanted to do something fun.

The response from our team during testing was immediate. People kept coming back for another bite and we knew we had a hit on our hands. It has the right balance of Smokehouse flavor and heat without being overpowering.

There are tons of things that we Buffalonians look forward to having at our summer cookouts, and spicy food is near the top of the list. These new hot dogs, which are available at Tops Friendly Markets, Dash’s Market, Market in the Square, and more stores around Western New York, should be a big hit.

Besides a good hot dog, what else do you plan on having during cookout season this year?
