Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz made a major announcement this week on social media, and it had nothing to do with the government.

Poloncarz posted on Facebook that he is now engaged. He popped the question to his girlfriend, City of Buffalo historian Lindsey Lauren Visser, while the two were in London and she said yes.

According to the post, there is no set date for the wedding yet.

Poloncarz has served as the Erie County Executive since 2012. He is a Lackawanna native and has been part of the government here in Western New York for decades.

He served as part of the John Kerry 2004 presidential campaign in 2003, serving as the coordinator and spokesperson for Buffalo and Western New York. He was also selected to be an at-large district delegate for Jerry in 2004 at the Democratic National Convention.

Poloncarz served as the Erie County Comptroller from 2006 until 2011. In 2011, Poloncarz announced his candidacy for Erie County Executive and won the election in 2012. He has held that position ever since.

This would be Poloncarz's second marriage. He was married in 2005 but ended up getting divorced in 2011.

Two years ago, a complaint of a Domestic Incident was filed against Poloncarz by an unnamed woman. Charges were never brought up against the County Executive as the woman declined to pursue charges against Poloncarz.

We wish the couple many years of a happy and fruitful marriage.
