Over 7 inches Of Snow Possible In Western New York

People who were hoping for a white Christmas will get their wish, expect it will be one week early.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Chautauqua County and the National Weather Service is predicting that the area could get 7-10 inches of snow between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 10
inches across the Chautauqua Ridge, with much lower amounts close to Lake Erie. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph will produce some blowing snow in open areas.

The Winter Storm Warning will be in place from 5 pm tonight through 10 am on Tuesday.

Other parts of Western New York will also see possible heavy snow as well.

Wyoming, Cattaraugus, Erie, Niagara, Orleans, and Genesee counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 9 pm tonight. That alert will go until 10 am on Tuesday morning as well. Those areas could see several inches of snow over the next 24 hours.

The evening commute on Monday and the morning commute on Tuesday could be greatly impacted by the snow and gusty winds. Use caution when you are traveling in Western New York during this time frame.

Today will also mark the end of the above-average temperatures in Western New York for this week. A cold front is moving in behind the snow storms and we could see highs in only the 30s starting on Tuesday and lasting into Christmas weekend.
