Someone who won one of the "golden hot dogs" from an auction several years ago has posted it for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Right now, they are asking $1000 for the golden hot dog, so is it worth it?

What Is Ted's Golden Hot Dog?

The golden hotdog from Ted's is a small golden keychain shaped like a hot dog. Only a few were ever made, and the owner of the golden hot dog could use it for buy one get one free hot dogs for life.

The only way you could of gotten one of the golden hot dogs was to win it in an auction, until now. Someone is now selling it on Facebook Marketplace. Right now, the golden hot dog is listed for $1000.

So would it be worth it to spend a $1000 to get buy one, get one free hot dogs from Ted's for the rest of your life? You also have to purchase a beverage in order to use the golden hot dog.

Let's use some basic math to figure this out. On average, a Ted's regular dog costs around $4.19. The cheapest beverage I could find was a 12-oz hot chocolate, tea, or coffee for $1.49.

You would have to spend $5.68 plus tax per visit to get a free hot dog.

If you ate at Ted's every day for one year, that would cost you roughly $2073. You would save $1529 a year by getting a free hot dog.

Add in the $1000 to get the golden hot dog, in year one, you would have to spend $3073 to save $1529. Then you would have to spend just over $500 per year to keep the bogo tradition alive.

That is a lot of hot dogs, and it is a commitment to eat a hot dog every day, so if you ask me, it is not just worth it. Just use that $1000 on buying an extra hot dog when you want one.
