Here are some of Tuesday's top stories in Western New York.

–It will be a chilly and wet start to our Tuesday. Today we could see some morning showers, mainly in Niagara County and in the Northtowns before we get a little break before the rain returns this afternoon. Our high today will be near 58. The colder weather will continue through Friday with highs in the mid-50s. The good news is that there will be a small warmup on Friday and Saturday where we could be back into the 60s.

–An IV fluid shortage has led Catholic Health to cancel elective surgeries this week. The company that makes the IVs was damaged by Hurricane Helene last week. The current stock of IVs at Catholic Health will be used for emergencies. If you had a surgery set for this week, you should double-check with your doctor before heading to the hospital.

-This winter you won’t have to worry about “Wind Chill” advisories and warnings. The National Weather Service announced that starting this Winter, they no longer will be issuing wind chill-related warnings. They will now use Cold Weather Advisories and Extreme cold warnings and watches. This will allow the National Weather Service to better warn residents of cold weather in the area.

– We could see the first flakes of winter next week. Early forecasts are calling for a cold front to move in from the Northwest and will bring cold temperatures, rain, and possible snow overnight next Tuesday into Wednesday. The good news is that the snow won’t stick, but it could slow down your morning commute.
