The summer will be here soon and now that the good weather is starting to show up, it's the perfect time to fly a kite. However, here in New York State, you may need a permit to fly that kite.

What Is The Issue With Kites?

Last summer, Channel 4 in Buffalo, New York ran the story below. The laws and permits pertain to the larger kites that you may have seen.

Last summer, we also learned that kites were not allowed along Buffalo's outer harbor. According to a report from Channel 2 news, "As it turns out, kite flying is not allowed in Buffalo State Park without a permit".

Your Kid's Kite Is Still OK?

Obviously the concern is not about the kites you get your kids at the store for a few bucks. However, it is a good idea to remind the kiddos to keep them away from power lines and watch where they are running. I have seen our kids plow over lawn chairs running in the yard as they are focused on looking up or back at the kites they are trying to fly.
