The Highwomen have arrived. The new country music supergroup debuted Monday (April 1) in Nashville at Loretta Lynn’s All-Star Birthday Celebration Concert.

The Highwomen acted as a quartet at the show, featuring Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires and songwriter and artist Natalie Hemby. More than twenty country stars including Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert and more paid homage to Lynn’s legacy at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, with each star performing one of Lynn’s classic songs.

The group fell in line with the tribute show spirit as the foursome sang “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,” a cut from 1993’s collaborative Honky Tonk Angels album from Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton. Kitty Wells originally recorded the song in 1952, and she also made an appearance on the 1993 cut.

Though the Highwomen didn’t perform any originals (the only acts to do so were George Strait, Alan Jackson and Crystal Gayle, at Lynn's request), it provided the first live preview of their vocal blend and onstage camaraderie.

The group are currently working on an album at RCA Studio A in Nashville, led by producer Dave Cobb, who also led the backing band at the tribute show.

Carlile also gave a breakout performance with her emotional rendition of "She's Got You," a Lynn remake of Patsy Cline's classic that became a No. 1 country hit in 1977. Carlile also played piano behind Tanya Tucker at the tribute, earning the most stage time out of all of the night's performers.

The Highwomen have shared pictures from their recording sessions via social media, but have so far not revealed any of the details of their upcoming project.
