The new year will be here soon and some in New York State are wondering what the new laws will be in 2025?

As we count the days down until Christmas arrives, the snow is in the forecast! The busy holiday season is here and kids across New York State are putting the last few items on their Christmas wish list.

But is a trampoline going to be under the tree when Santa leaves?

If you fly over New York State, you will likely see many backyard pools and many trampolines scattered about the villages and towns. Both are very fun and yet both come with safety concerns.

Recently, we had a discussion with our listeners about trampolines and whether or not they are a good idea for families. Most of the calls we got favored a trampoline as a good outdoor, fresh air activity for kids when under proper supervision.

However, we did get some calls from others who were against the idea of having a trampoline in the yard. The issue? Insurance.

According to at least one person who wrote to us, some insurance companies prefer you don't have a trampoline in the yard.

In their message to us, it was noted that: "the insurance company said remove in 24 hours or get canceled".

The lesson here is to check with your insurance carrier to make sure you comply with them. Will we see an overall ban on the popular backyard trampolines? If enough pressure is placed on lawmakers from insurance companies, it is a possibility.

As far as public parks, New York says: "As part of the safety standards, all trampoline parks must inform participants about proper safety guidelines, ensure trampoline park employees monitor participants while trampolining, and post safety, warning, advisory and instructional signage throughout the facility reflecting the trampoline park’s rules".
