There is going to be a huge change coming to the lottery that might make people want to stop playing. If you like to play the popular Mega Millions game, this especially will affect you.

The price of, well, everything has gone up. From food to cars, people across the United States are feeling the pinch. The same goes for New Yorkers.

What better way to stop feeling the pinch than to win the Mega Millions? Becoming a multi-millionaire overnight certainly will make the rising prices a moot point. However, even that is getting more expensive.

Big Lottery Changes Coming for New York State

The tickets for the Mega Millions jackpot will be going from $2 to $5 in 2 weeks.

Are more people going to play the lottery now that the price change is happening?

On one hand: you might not want to play any more because tickets are going to be increasing to $5. It was something that was announced last year that would be happening soon.

On the other hand: Since the price per ticket is going to more than double, the jackpot, you would assume, is going to be so much bigger than it used to be.

Officials said that there would be better odds of the Mega Millions:

Mega Millions debuted only 28 years ago and it is the second time that there is going to be a price change for a single ticket for the lottery. The Mega Millions lottery debuted in 1996. There are a ton of fun changes that are happening with the Mega Millions:

  • They are going to take one of the balls away for the Mega Ball. The Mega Ball is the gold one that they pull out at the end, and it is going to go from having 25 of them to only 24 of them.
  • A randomized multiplier for non-jackpot prizes will be included with every play. This means if you win, you will automatically get 2x or more for your prize.
  • Lastly, there will be no prize that lets you 'break-even.' Right now, if you play Mega Millions, there is a good chance if you win, you are winning $2 when you played two bucks. There will be no more "breaking even."
