There is a historic drought warning that has been posted that impacts a major portion of New York State.

Much of the state, including 20 counties, is under some sort of drought. But as of this week, New York City is now facing a serious water shortage situation.

The forecast is calling for some rain and snow for the end of this week and the extended outlook is calling for more of the same for Thanksgiving travel. But will it be enough?

According to many reports, and a post online from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, residents can help to conserve water.

The post on "X" from New York State's DEC says that "Due to a continued shortage of rainfall and declining levels of streamflow and groundwater, a statewide drought watch is now in effect. Additionally, a drought warning is in effect for 15 counties in the Catskills, Hudson Valley, and New York City".

The wildfires are still raging in some areas and it has become a serious situation along the New York/New Jersey border.

Hopefully the precipitation in the forecast will help to stop the fires but the areas most likely need and extended period of rain to get out of the danger zone.
