There are certain players that seem to make an impact every time they're on the field. They're the kinds of players that you know they're there because you seem to hear their names just about every other play.
Matt Milano is one of those players.
Before the start of the 2021 season, the Bills re-signed Milano to a 4 year $44 million deal to get him to stay in Buffalo and it was easily one of the best signings they had that year.
He has been playing like a man possessed this season. Last game against the Browns alone he had 12 tackles, 1 sack, a fumble recovery, and three tackles for a loss. He was all over the field.
The NFL noticed and named him the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
I just feel like this year, his confidence is at an all-time high. His assertiveness, his leadership, he's more communicative than he's ever been. He's just so much more sure of himself, and that's showing in his play. He's a big play guy, but he's steady at the same time. - Leslie Frazier, Buffalo Bills Defensive Coordinator
His teammates have even taken it one step further and started a campaign for him to be named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year. Jordan Phillips started his post-game comments with that simple sentence.
"First off, I wanna start with saying Matt Milano, Defensive Player of the Year." - Jordan Phillips
If he continues this same way all season, he might actually have a shot at it. The Bills defense will have their hands full with a Detroit Lions team that is on a 3-game win streak thanks to their offense.
